Sophie started her career at Waldeck five years ago, with no experience within the construction or civil engineering industry. She has fast become extremely accomplished; achieving the highest grades in her civil engineering courses with Lincoln College, learning to expertly pilot drones via a RPCS course and NVQ Level 4, and achieving her gold wings from RUSTA.
Apart from her engineering expertise, she is also committed to supporting health and safety within Waldeck, which has seen her receive the British Safety Council Young Health and Safety Champion 2017
Sophie said: “By entering this award, I felt that it would be an overall and all-encompassing achievement of everything that I have achieved to date. My journey goes to show that it doesn’t matter if you don’t have knowledge or experience within the industry, it’s about putting in hard work and dedicating yourself to something you are passionate about.”
This year being sponsored by Interserve, the Apprentice/Young Achiever of the Year Award goes to the person who shows outstanding commitment to their personal development and excels at their training, education or within their workplace.
Sophie continues: “Winning the award has been an overarching achievement of everything that I have achieved to date, and I hope to serve as an inspiration to others whether already in the industry or looking to start a career in construction.
“I’m hopeful others also see new technologies as a great opportunity and embrace it as I have within my career.”
The 2020 Greater Lincolnshire Construction & Property Awards will take place on 6th February at DoubleTree by Hilton in Lincoln, with entries for the eight award categories open until 25th November 2019.
